Dr. Gurven’s research adds context to the evolution of isolated human populations.
March 1, 2023
The Tsimane Health and Life History Project, co-directed by Dr. Michael Gurven, a professor of the Department of Anthropology at UCSB, has published a paper on the Tsimane population genome’s selection for traits associated with immunity and metabolism. Dr. Gurven’s research further addresses the different specialization of DNA between populations and sheds some light on the Tsimane population’s resistance against chronic end-of-life conditions like cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.
