Michael Ludkovski

Research Overview

Ludkovski's research interests are in longevity modeling and actuarial science. His team develops statistical models for the smoothing, nowcasting and projection of mortality trends across Ages and calendar Years. Ongoing work covers mortality analysis in different sub-populations (such as across US states), different causes-of-death, and joint models for male-female mortality. He has also worked on quantifying excess mortality during the Covid pandemic, and developing machine learning approaches for inference of mortality improvement factors. In 2021, Ludkovski led the winning team in the SOA Individual Life Experience Committee Mortality Prediction and Presentation Contest. As co-Director of the Center for Financial Mathematics and Actuarial Research (CFMAR), Ludkovski initiated the annual series of UCSB InsurTech Summits (2019--present).
