Dr. Zakarian's research is directed at medicinal and synthetic organic chemistry targeting complex molecules from nature and their derivatives. Dr. Zakarian and his team provide a synthetic platform to probe biological interactions associated with cell senescence, longevity, and aging. Specifically, they develop scalable and robust synthetic strategies to access molecules that are effective in regulating mitochondrial metabolism and calcium signaling that have been shown to be associated with cell senescence.
